Our Story

Welcome to our
winery in Tibaani

Dedicated to wine making in Tibaani, a beacon of tradition and innovation in the heart of Georgia’s Kakheti region. As stewards of a legacy that spans generations, we are dedicated to preserving and celebrating the ancient art of Georgian winemaking.

Our Heritage

Our story is deeply rooted in the rich history of Georgian viticulture. For centuries, our ancestors cultivated grapes and crafted wine using time-honored methods that have been passed down through the ages. Central to our winemaking tradition is the use of qvevri—large clay vessels buried underground. These vessels, essential to the unique Georgian process, allow our wines to ferment and age naturally, creating distinctive flavors that capture the essence of our terroir.

Embracing the Kvevri Tradition

At our winery, the kvevri method is more than just a winemaking technique; it is a symbol of our connection to the land and our commitment to authenticity. Each kvevri is handcrafted by skilled local artisans, reflecting a craft that requires deep knowledge and dedication. This ancient practice, though labor-intensive and requiring patience, produces wines that are rich, complex, and unmistakably Georgian.

Preserving these traditions has not always been easy. Throughout history, especially during the Soviet era, industrial winemaking threatened to overshadow our ancestral practices. Yet, we remained steadfast in our commitment to quality and authenticity. Our resilience during these challenging times is a testament to our unwavering dedication to our craft

Georgia: The Cradle of Wine

A Glimpse into the Origins

Georgia, nestled at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, is heralded as the birthplace of wine. Archaeological evidence traces Georgian viticulture back over 8,000 years, making it the oldest wine-producing region in the world. The rich, fertile soils of the Caucasus Mountains and the ideal climate created perfect conditions for the cultivation of wild grapevines. Ancient Georgians developed sophisticated winemaking techniques, such as the use of kvevri (also referred as qvevri) – large clay vessels buried underground for fermentation and aging—methods that are still in practice today.

A Legacy Preserved

The tradition of winemaking in Georgia has been passed down through generations, deeply woven into the cultural and social fabric of the nation. Despite centuries of invasions and political turmoil, Georgians have steadfastly preserved their unique winemaking heritage. Over 500 indigenous grape varieties have been cultivated, many of which are found nowhere else in the world.

Modern Renaissance

Today, Georgian wine is experiencing a renaissance on the global stage. Enthusiasts and experts alike are drawn to its unique qualities and historical significance. The qvevri wines, with their distinctive flavors and ancient techniques, have captivated a new generation of wine lovers. Modern wineries blend traditional methods with innovative practices to produce wines that honor Georgia’s heritage while appealing to contemporary palates.
